Different Trade Agreements In The Philippines

The Trade and Investment Agreement will develop a key aspect of the EU`s overall relationship with the Philippines, based on the EU-Philippines Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation, which entered into force in March 2018. The Philippines has been a member of the WTO since 1995 and benefits from expanded trade preferences with the EU under the EU`s Generalised System of Preferences Plus (GSP+). The United States and the Philippines have had a very close trading relationship for more than a hundred years. We meet regularly with the Philippines under the auspices of the 1989 Bilateral Framework Agreement on Trade and Investment (TIFA) to address outstanding bilateral issues and coordinate on bilateral, regional and multilateral issues. Under TIFA, the United States and the Philippines have also signed Customs Management and Trade Facilitation Agreements (2010), cooperate to stop illegal transshipments of textiles and clothing (2006), and implement minimum access obligations by the Philippines (1998). Philippines – European Free Trade Association Free Trade Agreement The Philippines and EFTA members Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland signed a free trade agreement in 2016 that is expected to enter into force in 2018. The Philippines` EFTA includes trade in goods, trade in services, investment, competition, intellectual property, government procurement, trade and sustainable development. U.S. trade in goods and services with the Philippines is estimated at $30.6 billion in 2019. Exports amounted to $12.1 billion; Imports amounted to $18.5 billion. The U.S. trade deficit with the Philippines amounted to $US 6.4 billion in 2019. The Parties recognize that economic development, social development and environmental protection are interdependent.

In Chapter 11, they reaffirm their commitment to multilateral environmental and labour agreements and principles and commit to maintaining the level of protection, while recognizing the right of each party to establish its own level of environmental and labour protection.
